The iPhone 8 doesn’t look like a whole lot has changed, but beneath the familiar exterior lies one of the most impressive pieces of smartphone hardware ever assembled. The powerful A11 processor helps the iPhone 8 open apps faster and launch the camera quicker and helps games perform smoother. The now classic exterior hides the revamped Retina HD display that features True Tone technology, which adjusts screen brightness depending on the available ambient lighting. Beyond the display, Apple’s added some new features, including wireless charging. The 12-megapixel camera adds a larger sensor for building on the iPhone’s already great photographic results, while the battery lasts up to 14 hours of talk time on a single charge. Available in both 64 and 256GB options in black, silver, and gold color schemes, the iPhone 8 is a great, albeit familiar choice. More »

Yes, it lacks a headphone jack, but the iPhone 7 Plus is also one of the best smartphones we've tested to date. Both its battery and its camera post some of the most impressive results we've ever seen, and it's even sealed up for water resistance. It won't come cheap, but if you're considering a premium, extra-large smartphone, the iPhone 7 Plus is in a class all its own.

Verizon is one of the biggest wireless providers in the United States. Unlike T-Mobile and AT&T, Verizon's phones tend to be unique to the carrier, and you can't typically use any ol' unlocked phone on their CDMA network. That said, Verizon gets all the big flagship phones you'd want. Whether you want a Samsung, an iPhone, or even an HTC or a Google Nexus, Verizon has most of the best devices around. These are the best smartphones we've tested that you can find on Big Red's expansive nationwide LTE network. — Our editors review and recommend products to help you buy the stuff you need. Verizon will often tempt potential customers with deals to get them to switch to its network. But the real selling point for Verizon is all the phones it offers, as you’re awash with choices that will fit just about every need, including several exclusives you’ll only find at Big Red. From the latest iPhones to a multitude of Android headsets, here are some of the top choices awaiting you at Verizon.

Apple's iPhone X has an outstanding 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED screen. Fortunately, the iPhone X has even more than just the display to win you over, including the True Depth camera for popular features like portrait photography, wireless charging and the addition of Face ID, which finally does away with Apple’s familiar home button for facial unlocking. Apple’s jump into the Facial ID arena also transitions Apple Pay from a fingerprint-based payment system to scanning your face to confirm payment. Even the addition of Animoji allows you to unlock your inner panda or robot for great conversation with friends and family. The dual 12-megapixel cameras on the rear are easily Apple’s best yet, with larger sensors producing incredible results that will have you leaving the DSLR at home. More »

With the largest network and an excellent selection of phones, it is no wonder why Verizon is largely considered to be the “top dog” out of all the major U.S. carriers. For those on Big Red’s network, there are quite a few options to choose from, including major flagships that are universally available on all carriers, as well as Verizon phones that are exclusive to the carrier.

That's right, Nokia's next smartphone is rumored to be called the Nokia 9 and it's said to be more premium than the recently-announced Nokia 8. That might see the display adopt an 18:9 aspect, see the introduction of waterproofing and keep that metal body.

Rumours suggest that the Nokia 9 would surface early 2018. Nokia has announced a new Nokia 6 for China, but we suspect this new flagship model isn't far out, possibly prior to Mobile World Congress.

If you’ve selected Verizon as your carrier of choice, you can rest comfortably knowing that its large network is matched by an equally large selection of superb phones. From flagships to budget-priced, there’s no shortage of choices whether you are team Android or team iPhone. Verizon’s claim of having the widest coverage is only as good as the device that runs on it, and we’ve looked at Big Red’s entire smartphone lineup, so read on to see which one best suits you.

Runner-Up, Best Samsung: Samsung Galaxy S8 Courtesy of Verizon Competition for the best Android phone is fierce, but the Galaxy S8 takes the top spot on our list due to many factors, especially its curvaceous body. “Samsung’s design prowess hasn’t just overtaken Apple, it has been lapped,” said Forbes of the S8.Measuring 5.86 x 2.68 x .31 inches, the S8 is tall and narrow, ideal for one-handed use. It sheds almost all traces of a bezel to make room for its 5.8-inch, 2,960 x 1,440-pixel Super AMOLED display. It’s no doubt slim but still manages to include a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. The fingerprint sensor is placed next to the 12-megapixel rear camera lens, which might take some getting used to. While it feels rather fragile, Samsung said that using Gorilla Glass 5 makes it more durable than its predecessor. Not to mention, it’s waterproof. On the inside, the S8 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, boasting improved graphics, modem capabilities, and Web performance, plus a 3,000mAh battery that can get you through the day. It’s an Android phone with not just beauty, but brains, too. More »

3. Galaxy Note 8 $960.00 Verizon The Galaxy Note 8 might look like a scaled-up Galaxy S8 at first blush, but there’s still no device like it. Samsung crammed a 6.3-inch Infinity display into the Note’s sleek frame, resulting in the most compact phablet we’ve ever held. The new-and-improved S Pen is both fun-to-use and practical, allowing you to jot down notes and translate text easier than ever before. And with dual cameras, the Note 8 can pull off beautiful shots that put it on equal footing with the iPhone 8 Plus. Yes, it’s expensive — but it can also do things no other smartphone can. (Image Credit: Tom's Guide)

There is also talk of a Sony Xperia XZ Pro and, as ever with Sony, we cannot be 100 percent sure of its naming scheme. Either way, a flagship phablet is incoming.

What’s more, the new dual-camera setup on the back performs incredibly well. While the picture quality isn’t a huge step up from what we saw on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, the extra 12 MP sensor with OIS allows you to take clear, concise photos and impressive bokeh shots in just about any situation.

Well, let us explain. The iPhone SE 2 we've all been waiting for may not be the cheap, small iPhone we're expecting. In fact, it may be an iPhone X SE, with a larger screen and higher price tag.

At this point, we’re just grateful BlackBerry has been able to make any phones at all since modern smartphones ate their business lunch. Fortunately, BlackBerry’s new Android phones like the KeyOne have managed to be pretty good. And the BlackBerry Motion, already out in some territories, seems to continue that trend.

There's chatter that it will be running Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 or Exynos 9810 and we'd be expecting to see it launch around April 2018, perhaps making its debut at Mobile World Congress 2018. This has been hinted at by a senior Samsung exec, who confirmed the phone would be launching at Mobile World Congress in February.

Rumours are light on the ground at the moment (including the name), but HTC has come forward and said that it will be making a return to dual cameras in 2018. HTC was the first to put two cameras on the back of its phone in the HTC One M8, and we can't help feeling this is a bid to compete on the spec sheet with rivals like LG and Huawei.

Verizon offers many premium Android phones, but the Moto Z2 Force is unlike any other. The Z2 Force supports Moto Mods — Motorola’s roster of swappable components that attach to the back of its Z-series phones, providing everything from a full-body camera lens to extra battery power, and even gamepad controls. The list of Mods has grown considerably over the last year or so, and although many of them can be a little pricey, you won’t find this functionality on Apple’s or Samsung’s handsets. (Image Credit: Tom's Guide)

Rumours suggest the iPhone X design could get two more sizes, mini and Plus, with upgrades to the internals of the X itself. Others suggest there could be cheaper alternatives that keep the design.

Courtesy of Amazon.com As you might be able to tell from our Apple pick above, we love battery life here at Livewire. It’s one of the most important factors you should consider when choosing a new smartphone because if you don’t have a charge, you don’t have a phone. Our pick for battery life amongst Verizon phones is the Moto Z Play Droid. This isn’t the flashiest phone overall, but the battery is incredible at nearly two days of mixed usage on a single charge. Motorola claims it can last 50 hours, but even if you’re getting 36 hours during heavy usage, there’s no modern phone that comes to close to beating this in the battery department. This means that even if you forget to charge your phone at night, you’d still be able to make it work the next day with a decent charge. The Moto Z Play Droid’s specs outside of battery aren’t as amazing, but they are still quite good. It runs Android 6.01 and has a 5.5-inch 1080p HD screen, a 16-megapixel camera that takes good-but-not-amazing photos, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a headphone jack, and a USB-C connector. All of this makes for a great phone that will likely last you a long, long time. More »

This time around, Samsung included a curved screen on both the S8 and S8 Plus, as well as a unique 18.5:9 aspect ratio that allows for a much more comfortable in-hand feel. The company even ditched its famous physical home button and included on-screen navigation keys (finally). Under the hood, these devices come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor (or Exynos 8895, depending on the region), 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of onboard storage, and one of the latest versions of Android, 7.0 Nougat.

Throughout 2016, the LG G5 struggled to take on the Galaxy S7, HTC 10 and all the other flagships released that year. It’s not a bad phone, per se, it just lacks the level of polish we normally expect from top-tier smartphones nowadays. The phone would have been more widely accepted if it nailed the modular implementation, but unfortunately, the whole module-swapping process was wonky and the three “Friends” that launched with the G5 weren’t all that appealing. With the G6, LG has gone back to the basics to bring us yet another epic addition to the Verizon phones family.

Best Value: iPhone SE Courtesy of Amazon.com Choosing a smartphone that offers the best value is no simple decision. Looking for the right combination of hardware, camera, battery life, and price can lead to a lengthy search. Thankfully, we’ve done all the analysis and searching for you and nailed down the iPhone SE as the best value device on Verizon’s network. The device is a mirror image of the iPhone 6s, just in a more pocket-friendly hardware. The 12-megapixel camera is among the industry’s best, and while the 4” display is small, the screen's retina clarity helps make the text easy to read. The A9 processor is fast and it offers the best battery life of any iPhone on the market; the 1,642mAh battery edges out the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, thanks to some magical energy efficiency paired with the smaller and less resource-intensive display. But the company has filed fresh patents for a foldable mobile device, reigniting rumors on the possibility of a Surface Phone. It's still no more than a maybe, making estimating a release date impossible. But if the Surface Phone does eventually see the light of day, we could see a foldable phablet to rival the Galaxy Note X.

Having already taken Samsung in its sights, OnePlus is on to Apple. Or, more specifically, the iPhone X's Face ID feature. OnePlus is tipped to develop its own version of the face-recognition technology in its upcoming flagship. And though the OnePlus 5T supports face recognition, the OnePlus 6 will make it secure enough for use with mobile payments.

4 9.6 Apple iPhone 8 Plus With its lavish design, its long-lasting battery, and its sensational dual-camera experience, the iPhone 8 Plus is one of the best big-screened smartphones money can buy. It's not as big of a step-up from its predecessor as the iPhone 7 Plus was from the 6s Plus, but if you're in the market for an upgrade, the 8 Plus is one of the best in the game—assuming you're not willing to pay more for the iPhone X. HTC has added the HTC U11+ to its 2018 line-up, shifting to an 18:9 display and boasting a number of areas of this phone. It comes at a strange time and feels like the foundation for the 2018 flagship. We wouldn't be surprised to see a similar device on new hardware with a couple of additional features launching in April 2018.

There's currently no knowing what Apple will call the new iPhone, but we suspect it will move from stainless steel back to aluminum to bring the price down while retaining that 19:9 display and using Face ID rather than Touch ID in a home button. We'd expect Apple to offer a couple of sizes in this design, making some differentiation between the two as it does with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus currently. At the moment, however, there's no evidence to say exactly what might happen.

Samsung’s flagships are our favorite Android phones on the market, and for good reason. The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus have absolutely everything you want from a premium smartphone in 2017. The LG G7 was originally tipped to launch early at CES in January, and then things went a bit crazy as people started suggesting the phone had actually been delayed until April. Then, the unthinkable: the LG G7 had been ditched and the company was starting from scratch on its flagship.

In terms of hardware specs, the LG V30 has everything you would expect from a flagship phone in 2017. It has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with 4 GB RAM, along with 64 GB of onboard storage, a 3,300 mAh battery, and an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. LG is heavily promoting the advanced camera and photography features on the V30m too. It has a dual rear camera that includes a 16 MP sensor with a f/1.6 aperture, along with a 13 MP sensor with a f/1.9 aperture. The rear camera has a Crystal Clear Lens instead of plastic, which should mean you should get more realistic looking photos with the V30. Video creators should have fun with software features like Cine Video, which allows users to quickly put in video effects, along with Point Zoom, which will let owners zoom into any point in a video.

Okay, let's be honest here, we're not actually entirely convinced that a Snapchat smartphone will ever exist, let alone become a reality in 2018. We think it more likely the company is working on a connected camera, but there is certainly talk of a Snapchat phone.

Most people may be focused on the futuristic iPhone X, but the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are the best phones you can buy on Verizon right now. Despite the more familiar, traditional design, these devices are all new underneath. Both are powered by Apple’s blazing-fast A11 Bionic chip — the speediest processor we’ve ever tested in a smartphone. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus also Apple’s first handsets to support wireless charging. And if you spring for the larger iPhone 8 Plus, you’ll get improved dual cameras alongside the clever new Portrait Lighting mode. (Image Credit: Tom's Guide)

If you’re looking for a budget phone on America’s largest and fastest network, you can’t do much better than the just-released Moto E4 Plus. This phone is a jack-of-all-trades, with a metal design, solid camera, respectable performance, a great software experience, and a decent display. But it’s the battery life that separates the E4 Plus from the competition. With a 5,000mAh pack built-in, this phone lasted nearly 15 hours on our Tom’s Guide Battery Test, barely edged out by Asus’ more expensive ZenFone 3 Zoom. At just $130 prepaid on Verizon, the E4 Plus is the best bargain on the network right now. (Image Credit: Tom's Guide)

The LG G7 (which may actually be called the Icon), when it finally launches, is likely to be one of the first phones to carry the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. We'd also expect to see the same 18:9 OLED FullVision display, and potentially an under-glass fingerprint sensor.

With the pace of smartphone evolution moving so fast, there's always something waiting in the wings. No sooner have you spied the latest handset, then there's anticipation of something else, the next big thing.

Now there's talk of what we're calling the Xperia XZ2. A render appeared that shows no bezel, as well as a spec sheet that details a 5.48-inch display with Full HD resolution, a Snapdragon 845 and twin rear 12-megapixel cameras, with a 15-megapixel camera on the front.

Now we get to see what Samsung has in store for us in 2017. It should come as no surprise that the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus feature top-of-the-line specifications, great cameras and an all-new design that’s truly futuristic. Without a doubt, this is one of the hottest Verizon phones on this list!

The Pixel has Google's fingerprints all over it; from the integration of Google Assistant to the architecture of the software, everything about this phone is confident and streamlined, like most of Google's efforts. The camera sits at the top of its class, its battery life is superb, and its quite possibly the fastest phone we've ever tested. At last, Samsung has competition for the best Android smartphone out there.

No, it’s not perfect, but no phone is. Samsung’s fingerprint sensor placement is still super annoying, and this phone is expensive. If those things don’t matter to you though, the Note 8 might be the right phone for you. Check out our full review below!

We're here to help. We put about 100 phones a year through rigorous testing in PC Labs to find out which ones live up to their ad copy, and which ones are just phoning it in. If you're buying a phone on Verizon right now, these are the best you can get.

Less is known on the core hardware, with contradictory sources claiming it will feature the Snapdragon 835 or 845, 4- or 6GB of RAM and 64- or 128GB of storage. Our money is on the former, since Samsung may well be again holding the exclusive on the new Qualcomm chip.

You may have read rumors about a Galaxy S8 Mini. However, as we approach the Galaxy S9 release date it's looking more likely that if such a phone exists it will be the Galaxy S9 Mini, not the Galaxy S8 Mini.

All three are thought to have 6in 'borderless' (18:9) displays, though the Force will feature a Quad-HD resolution while the Z3 and Play are stuck on full-HD. It will also have the most powerful spec, with the Snapdragon 845 inside.

Best Samsung: Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Courtesy of VerizonWireless.com The Galaxy Note 8 has an incredibly sharp 6.3-inch Super AMOLED 2960 x 1440 display. Samsung appropriately calls it an infinity display with a nearly bezel-less design and pairs it with their vaunted S Pen for a host of features, including translations, notes and live messaging. Beyond the display, the inclusion of an IP68 rating enables the Note 8 to survive a trip into a puddle or lake without fear. The rear 12-megapixel camera captures excellent photographic results and 4K video is made even better. Paired with 6GB of RAM, the octa-core processor and 64GB of internal memory allow the Note 8 to run through a gauntlet of applications, phone calls, meetings and more without so much as skipping a beat. With nearly 30 hours of talk time available thanks to the 3300mAh battery, the Note 8 lasts all day on the Verizon network while providing an outstanding Android experience. More »

The ten phones listed here are the best we've reviewed that are currently sold by Verizon. They include both Android and iOS phones. (Sadly, there isn't much to recommend in terms of Windows Phone at the time of writing, as Microsoft declined to support CDMA in its most recent round of phones.)
